A true Olympic star with two medals from three Games, Charity Williams plans to “have a blast” on her Kai Tak Stadium debut at the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens this week.
The Canadian winger played a series of training matches for the Hong Kong Institute of Sports (HKSI) on Saturday, with his team facing Fiji, Denmark and the city team.
And there is no danger of “just a little thorn” ruling the 29-year-old for the second year in a row.
“It’s still amazing to be here (HKSI), it’s a top-class facility and it’s been good to put our feet on the ground and get the plane off our bodies,” he said.
A surprise inclusion as a 19-year-old for the 2016 Olympics, Williams emerged from the Rio Games with bronze, a result she believes has made the sport “one of the fastest growing” in North America.
After finishing ninth in Tokyo in 2021, Canada claimed silver in Paris three years later; hosts France in the quarter-finals, then toppled Australia before losing a tight final against New Zealand.
