The chances of a deal on Tehran’s nuclear program have improved significantly, Al Jazeera has reported
US-Iran talks brokered by Pakistan to end the latest Middle East conflict are close to being reached, Al Jazeera has reported.
The chances of an agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program have improved significantly, the media reported, citing Pakistani sources.
Iran’s nuclear program has become a bone of contention in talks with the United States to end the Middle East conflict after Washington announced a cease-fire on April 7.
Mediators from the US and Iran sides have been at loggerheads over the timing of a freeze on uranium enrichment by Tehran as part of its nuclear program.
Of the country reserve of 440 kg of highly enriched uranium is also still a sticky issue.
Hopes to break the deadlock came after a Pakistani delegation led by Army Chief Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on Wednesday for talks to resolve the Middle East conflict.
Envoys were continuing to exchange messages between Washington and Tehran, the news agency said.
An Al Jazeera report said Munir has brought a new message from the United States, adding that he plans to facilitate another round of talks between Tehran and Washington.
The first round of US-Iranian talks led by US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf ended without success in Islamabad on Sunday.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey this week was part of “two-pronged strategy” to minimize any opposition to the agreement, the media outlet said.
Options being considered include exporting Iran’s uranium stockpile to a third party or bringing it down to uranium in its natural state or up to 3%, according to the report.
The conflict between the United States and Iran is about to be resolved, President Donald Trump he demanded on Wednesday.
Trump has also said that the 20-year moratorium on uranium enrichment for Iran is not enough timereferring to a reported proposal made by Vance in Islamabad.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry reported on Thursday that no dates have been set for the event the next round of negotiations between the United States and Iran.
