MasterChef expert Ben Pobjie on why Meghan will make this series the sweetest, tastiest, most satisfying and toothpick we’ve seen yet.
We all love it Master Chief. We really have no choice, considering we are Australians and we don’t want to give up every last shred of humanity in us.
We know that no TV show can match Master Chief when it comes to inspiration, heart-warming positivity, exciting competition and useful tips to get the most out of your perfected paella. And perhaps the greatest thing about the show is how it continues to elevate itself.
You thought croquembouche was a challenging dessert? Meet the snow egg. Did you think Ben and Andy epitomized the true meaning of friendship? Meet Jess and Sashi. And you thought Katy Perry was he a high ranking guest judge? Meet Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
Yes, this year Master Chief will feature a woman who some have called the most important Duchess of Sussex since a woman who may have been one before. Meghan Sussex, actress, duchess, influencer, lifestyle guru, philanthropist and friend of wild animals everywhere, comes to the kitchen headquarters to give her opinion on what a smart chef likes. This is probably the best news Master Chief fans have heard since we found out that, in fact, Matt Preston didn’t think Aaron’s tortellini was disgusting at all.
There are several reasons why the duchess arrived Master Chief Headquarters is news to warm all our hearts and give us hope that the world may not be such a cold, cruel place after all.

First, it will give the show some much-needed class filler. Like Master Chief has been flawed in the past – I said IF! – has been that it is directed to the lower market. I mean, all these people baking bread and cooking pasta and showing pictures of themselves going fishing with their fathers: it has a real lobster-and-stubbies vibe, doesn’t it? It’s a bit RSL, a bit Hello It’s Saturday. It certainly could do with a little beauty – a kind of real royal thing, who is also the star of When Sparks Fly (2014), is well placed to provide.
Once Meghan has decorated Master Chief platform, no one can say anymore that this show is the television equivalent of a meat tray lottery. It will have the Sussex stamp of approval, a copy of Buck House-cum-Hollywood that will last forever, making that clear Master Chief fans have known deep down: this is really the Duchess of the reality show.
But beauty is one thing; Meghan also brings a unique element of great culinary heft to the role. Unlike her predecessor Ms. Perry, no one can tell that this look has nothing but pizazz behind it. Remember that Meghan Markle is the creator and host of the popular Netflix show With Love, Meghanwhere he’s been showing off his kitchen chops — as in skills, not actual chops — since way back in 2025.
This is not a culinary dilettante, this is a woman who has built an international brand out of her skills in the kitchen, who has created an internationally recognized television series based on her cooking skills, who has actually cooked food in front of the camera, who has met Chrissy Teigen.
At least he’s an accomplished chef like the others who will be guest judging this season, such as Jimmy Barnes and Robert Irwin. Of course, in some ways it doesn’t matter – being a guest judge isn’t about cooking, it’s about eating, and well-placed sources indicate Meghan has done it on several occasions.
But perhaps the greatest asset of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Queen of A suitwill bring to Master Chief this year is the best gift: compassion. No judge who has appeared on the show has been able to give the contestants the kind of emotional support that Meghan gives people as a natural function of her inner nature.
There is a reason why he quickly became the most beloved member of the royal family since Edward the Black Prince (1330-1376) and why he is always the envy of the rest of the royal family. It’s because his ability to connect with ordinary people is unmatched.
You only have to see her on her own show, or her many appearances on talk shows, or just when she appears in public, laying hands on ordinary people, to realize that here is a woman who understands people and can give them help in the most difficult times.
On the show like Master Chiefwhere stress and fatigue are the norm and all involved are always on the verge of market tears, every participant finds themselves in dire need of a friend even more than a working Hibachi. And Meghan, the friend of the world, will be there to soothe their worries and calm their overwrought minds; giving them a shoulder to cry on, an ear to talk to, and a lap to curl up on and cry a good old cry.
For all these reasons and more, Meghan is an incomparable revolution Master Chief producers, and for this reason alone this year’s show will be the sweetest, sweetest, most satisfying and toothsome lineup we’ve seen yet.
The Duchess of Sussex is truly the link everyone has been waiting for to become a hero.
MasterChef Australia returns on Sunday, April 19, on Network Ten and Play.
