In a way, Saturday at the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens is like a hump day, a little bit of sailing for success so you can find some fun – at least for the players.
This morning’s pool matches give way to the quarter-finals this evening, and for those who make it, the promise of an even better day tomorrow.
Not so in the stands, where the second day of the city’s premier sporting event is known worldwide among supporters as dress-up day, party day and the day the gloves come off.
There’s plenty in the way of entertainment too, Vengaboys regardless. South Africa and Argentina will meet in the men’s pool stage, with the Blitzboks needing to beat the defending champions.
And on the women’s side, the inevitable showdown between Australia and Canada will decide who will come out on top in Group B.
It’s going to be a busy day at Kai Tak Stadium, so follow us for live coverage of all the action as it happens.
