A US warship disabled the ship’s engine before the Marines boarded, CENTCOM said
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has released a videotape showing one of its warships firing on an Iranian-flagged cargo ship that was later captured by the U.S. Navy.
According to CENTCOM, the guided missile destroyer USS Spruance interfered with the M/V Touska in the Gulf of Oman when it tried to violate the blockade imposed by the United States and reach the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas through the Strait of Hormuz.
“After Touska’s crew failed to heed repeated warnings for six hours, Spruance ordered the ship to leave her engine room. Spruance stopped Touska by firing several shots from the destroyer’s 5-inch Mk 45 gun into the engine room,” CENTCOM said, adding that a team from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit later boarded the ship.
