Liam Rosenior was sacked as Chelsea manager after less than four months in charge on Wednesday following five consecutive Premier League defeats.
Losing seven times in their last eight matches in all competitions, Chelsea have failed to even score while losing five consecutive league matches for the first time since 1912.
The 41-year-old was released from Strasbourg, the French club who are affiliated with Chelsea’s American owners, in January following the departure of Enzo Maresca.
But a 3-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday that Rosenior himself called “unacceptable” proved to be the final blow to the Blues’ leadership.
“Chelsea Football Club has today parted ways with Head Coach Liam Rosenior,” a club statement said.
“This was not a decision the club took seriously, however recent results and performances have fallen below the required standards and there is still much to play for this season,” the statement added.
