For Hong Kong driver Denise Yeung, the prospect of facing 75 minutes and nearly 728 corners, with the heaviest requiring 110kg of brake pedal, has marked the fulfillment of a decade-long dream through physical exertion that many cannot imagine.
The real estate professional, who is in her 50s, will be the first Chinese woman to compete in the Road to Le Mans series in France from June 10 to 12 – but she refuses to be limited by any identity.
Established in 1923, the Le Mans tradition is considered one of the most enduring endurance races in the world and the Le Mans Road serves as a “stepping stone” for high-end endurance racing.
“I really appreciate being the first Chinese woman to compete at Le Mans. This is a historic moment that cannot be replicated,” Yeung said.
Yeung will be joined in June by 20-year-old British driver Theo Micouris, who finished second at the 2025 Road to Le Mans. Representing Team Virage, the duo will compete in the LMP3 model within the Pro/Am category.
He noted that tracking the sport in Hong Kong was “absolutely, absolutely, absolutely difficult”, as the city lacked an official go-kart track, let alone a racing circuit.
