Develop | China’s Politburo is ramping up its policy response as the Iran war shakes the global economy

China has vowed to take a comprehensive approach in dealing with external shocks and protecting the country’s energy security, as the fallout from the US-Israeli war against Iran continues to spread throughout the world economy.

The country’s top leadership also emphasized the importance of developing the nation’s technological independence and control of its industrial supply chains.

After the meeting of the country’s Politburo – the main decision-making body of the ruling Communist Party led by President Xi Jinping – ended on Tuesday, the country’s top leadership promised to move forward with new water, energy and computer infrastructure projects, while speeding up the launch of major projects that are ready to be implemented.

“Since the start of this year, China’s economy has started strongly, and key indicators are coming in better than expected,” according to a reading released by Xinhua, which added that the economy still faces several challenges.

“It is important to strengthen confidence and increase efforts with stronger and more consistent measures to ensure the economic work is done effectively.”

China’s economy increased by 5 percent year-on-year in the first quarter, official data released this month showed, which analysts said showed the country remained on track to meet its full-year growth target without the need for immediate stimulus.
