Carillon Park in Vanier is poised to become Ottawa’s first ‘sponge park’.


When there is too much water to seep into the ground, a sponge park can still reduce runoff. They often have shallow ditches and rain-loving plants called bioswales, where excess water pools. The water gradually enters the sewer system, or will eventually soak into the ground, Nicell said.
