Welcome to The Logoff: Donald Trump is eyeing a new target in his efforts to fix DC.
What is happening? at the end of the week, The Washington Post reported that Trump is preparing a new private fundraising effort for a Trump-style “renovation” of a public golf course in Washington, DC.
It’s the latest sign that Trump is serious about taking over the East Potomac Golf Course, which is part of Cherry Park that lines the East Potomac near the National Mall.
The course is still open for now – report on Friday suggested his takeover was imminent — but a federal judge is warning the Trump administration tread lightlyciting “some concern that we don’t act first and apologize later,” as Trump did in destroying the East Wing of the White House last year.
“I don’t want a situation where something happens, and then I’m told by the government or by an abusive institution or company that it’s too late to do anything about it,” District Court Judge Ana C. Reyes said Monday.
What is the context? Trump, a golf enthusiast who owns more than a dozen courses, is reported he wants to transform the inexpensive, public East Potomac into something designed for championship play and more like one of his own courses. In the process, the interpretations show, he would have taken over a large part of the park surrounding the course.
what is the main picture? Trump’s popularity is falling and he remains mired in unpopular foreign wars; he should, by right, have other priorities. However, The Washington Post was found last monthhe’s more vocal about his ballroom project than ever and, relying on the pretext of America’s 250th anniversary, seems eager to continue remaking DC in his own image: painting the bottom of the ballpark. Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool blue, push forward and his plan for a great new triumphal archand the possibility of closing the beloved public park.
