Hong Kong football may receive a capital investment of around US$500,000 after more details emerged on Thursday about this year’s Fifa Asean Cup.
As previously reported, Hong Kong is expected to host Division 2 of the tournament, which will feature six teams. The top tier looks set to go eight-a-side after China and India, the world’s two most populous nations, appeared to be invited to compete in a nudity test to fuel the appetite for another wild event.
There has been no confirmation from the Chinese FA about their involvement but All India Football Federation deputy general secretary M Satyanarayan told the Times of India that his organization “has accepted Fifa’s invitation and signed a membership agreement”.
Satyanarayan added that his organization is “now awaiting further details”.
Reached again on Thursday, the Hong Kong Football Association, China (HKFA) did not respond to a request for comment.
The two-group competition, which will be staged in Fifa’s new extended international window this autumn, will reportedly boast a total prize pool of US$4 million.
