Prime Minister Keir Starmer is already facing real losses as a result of Britain’s biggest general election since 2024.
Voters have elected more than 5,000 English councilors in 136 councils, including all 32 London boroughs; six mayors in England; all 129 members of the Scottish Parliament; along with all 96 members of the enlarged Welsh parliament, the Senedd.
As the count continues, Starmer’s Labor has sacked more than 200 councilors in the UK and left control of seven councils, with Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party the main beneficiary.
The reform has added more than 300 councilors to its total – with the left-wing Greens and Liberal Democrats also making modest gains. So far it has been a bad night for the right-wing Conservatives, who have shed many councillors.
