“Sadly, police disciplinary issues can go on for years and years, and the public gets confused, of course, because those police officers haven’t done any work for years,” says Gregory Brown, a professor in Carleton University’s criminology department. “Police officers aren’t stupid, right? If it looks like you’re not going back to work — maybe you’re going to be fired or ordered to resign — it’s in your best interest to stick it out for as long as possible.”
