Ceci Lee Sze-wing said she did not have a specific goal for this week’s UCI Track World Cup event in Hong Kong after a hectic racing schedule last month.
The 24-year-old, who won two golds, one silver and two bronzes at the Asian Track Championships in the Philippines last month, said she will approach the home event with a relaxed mindset as she gears up for the Asian Games in September.
“After the Asian Championships, I haven’t had any special preparations,” Lee said. “My form is good, so I will fight with normal thoughts and prepare step by step for the Asian Games.”
Lee, who won two bronze medals at the previous World Cup in Perth, said Australia’s tournament was lacking in elite players, and he saw his home leg as a milestone.
“The rhythm of the Asian tournament is different from the World Cup. Of course, I want to compete with the best in the world, so I need to balance both,” Lee said. “In Perth, not many strong riders were there. I want to use the opportunity in Hong Kong to reassess the gap between myself and the world class.”
With the World Cup returning to the city after a two-year absence, Lee expressed his delight at the elite competition on home soil. He singled out New Zealand’s Ally Wollaston, a double medalist from the 2024 Paris Olympics, as the opponent he is most eager to meet.
