2-time champion Carlos Alcaraz will miss the French Open due to a hand injury

Two-time French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz said on Friday that he will not play in this year’s tournament as he is suffering from a wrist injury.

The Spaniard said the call to end his clay season was made after receiving test results on his right wrist, also ruling him out of the Italian Open.

“We have decided that the wisest thing to do is to be cautious and not participate in Rome or Roland Garros,” Alcaraz said on social media.

“This is a difficult time for me, but I am sure we will come out of it stronger,” Alcaraz added, saying that he and his team will monitor his recovery before deciding when and where he will return.

Alcaraz suffered the injury during the first round of the Barcelona Open last week, where he defeated Otto Virtanen but withdrew from the tournament.

The 22-year-old announced his withdrawal from the Madrid Masters on April 17, raising concerns about whether he will be able to play at the French Open.
