“There’s a case for looking at that again,” Burnham replied. “In a world where we have serious challenges with knife crime, I think it needs to be looked at, although it needs serious discussion,” he added.
Burnham also rejected accusations of two levels of policing in Greater Manchester, praising its Chief Constable Stephen Watson. He also highlighted Watson’s pledge to “never take a knee.” There is no waking up here.
5. Kenyon’s social media posts continue to haunt him
Other candidates in the debate discussed Kenyon – a plumber who championed Reform Britain in the 2024 general election – over his scathing online comments about women,, war in Ukraine and social policy.
Reform has stood by Kenyon, saying that the remarks were made before he entered politics.
Kenyon on Thursday responded that his comments were “taken out of context,” adding: “I was brought up by women. I have nothing but respect for women.”
But Greens candidate Sarah Wakefield said she spoke to broadcaster Carol Vorderman on Thursday morning after it was reported that Kenyon was made sexual comments about the advertiser in 2021.
