A man has died in his car following a cross-border chase between Queensland and NSW.
The man, believed to be a 25-year-old from Queensland, was allegedly armed when he drove his car across the Gold Coast border at around 1am on Sunday.
He was initially reported to police in Robina at around 11.45pm, and was later found by officers along West Burleigh Road. He evaded an attempt by officers to detain him, and crossed the border on the Gold Coast Highway.
Queensland Police reported the incident to NSW Police, who found the man on Sexton Hill Drive in the Banora Point area.
The man failed to stop when ordered to do so and a police chase was launched, continuing through several nearby suburbs before road patrols were dispatched twice in Murwillumbah South.
He continued driving for some time before stopping at an embankment on Kyogle Road in Kunghur – about half an hour south-west of Murwillumbah – at around 2am.
The man was found unconscious in his car by officers, who immediately performed CPR, but he died at the scene.
A firearm was seized from the vehicle.
The man has not yet been officially identified, and the critical incident team will investigate the matter.
