Anthony Albanese speaks at the National Press Club after addressing the nation

Should Prime Minister Anthony Albanese provide more material for Australians during last night’s national address?

That’s the question Defense Minister Richard Marles was asked on ABC’s RN Breakfast a while ago.

On the same radio show, Liberal leader Dan Tehan said:

He could also tell us what he was going to eat for dinner… there was nothing new in (the speech). I think everyone was just surprised after last night.”

Here is what Marles said:

Australians are understandably worried about what’s going on. It is in that context that the prime minister wanted to speak directly to the Australian people about what they are going through, what is next, but, more importantly, what the government is doing and what Australians themselves can do. And that’s what he explained last night.”

While on ABC TV, Marles said he was “speculating on specifics, other than indicating a national fuel security plan” when pressed if the Prime Minister was preparing the nation to expect more drastic measures to save fuel after Easter.
