At least 5 people have been killed by a gunman in the city of Kyiv


A gunman opened fire on people in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on Saturday, killing five and wounding several others, Ukrainian authorities said.

The attacker was killed by the policeauthorities said.

“The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko has just reported that the attacker in Kyiv who opened fire on civilians has been removed. The whole environment are being established,” President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a post on X.

“For now, five people have been confirmed killed,” he said. “Ten people are currently hospitalized with injuries and trauma. They are all receiving the help they need.”

Zelenskyy said the man had a gun taken people hostage in an attack in the Holosiivskyi district of the capital of Ukraine. Four of the hostages managed to be rescued, he said.

“We expect it quick check up. Investigators of the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine are working,” Zelenskyy added.

Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko said the municipal authority was launched a “special operation” to arrest the attacker, who said he entered the supermarket after being shot.
