Former Liberal senator Hollie Hughes says she is ready to run for federal parliament again with One Nation, the party she joined in May with former Liberal vice-president Teena McQueen, who died last week.
“I told Pauline I would talk to her when I got back (from holiday) about what my future might be,” Hughes told the ABC’s. Afternoon Update.
“Unfortunately, the day I came back was the day we lost Tina McQueen, and so we’ve been preparing for her farewell on Friday, but I’m sure in the next couple of weeks, we’ll sit down and have a conversation and say what it looks like, but I’m interested.”
A long-time critic of Opposition Leader Angus Taylor, Hughes was upset by Taylor’s latest results, even if Hanson’s had fallen from a record high.
“Angus has enjoyed a wonderful climate, he has never had a following, since he took over, but he has failed not only to change things – he has made them worse,” Hughes said.
A centrist NSW senator from 2019 to July 2025, Hughes endorsed Ley in the May 2025 vote in the final months of his term after being relegated from winning the Liberals’ Senate ticket.
