At least three people were injured in what authorities described as a deliberate “attack”.

At least three people were injured after a bag bomb exploded outside a residential building in Monaco on Monday evening. A massive manhunt was launched after the blast, with the suspect still at large.

The blast occurred shortly before 9:00 p.m. on Rue Révérend Père Louis Frolla, a central street near the French border.

The suspect was allegedly caught on CCTV leaving a bag near the door of the building as several people entered, before fleeing on foot towards Beausoleil, a French district bordering Monaco.

At least three people were injured, two of them seriously, while the third suffered minor injuries. Police sources cited by BFMTV and other media said the victims were from “Ukrainian and Russian Origins.”

The explosion was loud enough to be heard several distances away. Emergency services rushed to the scene, with five vehicles and 14 firefighters from the Alpes-Maritimes department called as reinforcements, according to SDIS 06.

The authorities of Monaco also introduced “red plan” an emergency response protocol used in the event of a sudden incident that results in multiple casualties.

Eric Ciotti, the mayor of the Nice neighborhood, described the incident as “attack.”

“The attack carried out this evening is a tragedy that is affecting Monaco,” Ciotti wrote in a post on X. “Thoughts to the victims, their families, and the people of Monaco. Full assistance to the security forces and emergency services was mobilized.”
