Best Meta Sunglasses (2026): Ray-Ban, Oakley, AR

Every time I have done it written about Meta’s AI-powered glassesI get asked these questions all the time: Why do you even want these? Why do you want it? smart glasses which can play music or misidentify native plants with a strange cheering voice? I’m a lifelong Ray-Ban Wayfarer wearer, and I’m also WIRED’s resident Meta wearer. I grab Meta glasses every time I leave the house because I like being able to use one device instead of two or three when walking. With Meta glasses, I can wear sunglasses and workout headphones in one!

The meter is for sale more than 7 million pairs in 2025. Check out any major outdoor or sporting event, and you’ll see more than a few people wearing these to record Instagram or TikTok clips. Meter of collaboration with EssilorLuxottica has made smart glasses accessible, stylish, and useful and of course they are the reason why Google, and now Applethey are trying to enter the market. After a notable flop that’s it Apple Vision ProApple is revamping its face-wear strategy, moving away from augmented reality (AR) toward simpler, less-displayed, and better-looking glasses.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be careful how you use these glasses. The meter does not the biggest single record about privacy, and the company has continued to push forward with policies that are questionable at best. Even if you it is not that concern facial recognition will allow Meta to target migrants or enable trackers to find their victims, at least, people don’t like the idea that you can start recording them at any time.

Perhaps the biggest drawback to wearing Meta glasses is that even doing so seems like a huge violation of the social contract. After all, these are Mark Zuckerberg’s”distort the glass.” When I put this in my head, I’ve had friends (and my spouse) say no and say, “I have programs to warn me away from people like you.” The best part, though, is that Oakley and Ray-Ban already make some really cool sunglasses. Even if the battery dies or you don’t use the Meta AI at all, these are stellar at shading your eyes and the sun.

However, if you decide to try them, here’s what you should get. If you do chicken out, check out ours purchasing guidelines for Best Smart Glasses or Best Exercise Headphones for more.
