Espresso Mates The Series 1 is $200 off for Amazon Prime Day 2026. That’s the first time it’s been on any kind of discount—and frankly, I’m surprised it happened so soon, especially at such a generous price break.
My friends make easy-to-use products that cater to even the most nerdy of nerds: That’s why I love the brand’s products. I congratulated him Espresso Companion Series 1 (8/10, WIRED Recommends) as a game changer when it came out earlier this year, the kind of machine that changes what latte lovers expect from a home espresso machine. It is, in fact, mine favorite espresso machine current for the home user, the perfect combination of power and convenience.
That’s because it’s the first premium espresso maker I’ve seen that lets you play with pressure and shot profiles—and it’s super easy to do, even if you’re not a coffee geek. Most other machines on the market apply 9 to 15 bars of pressure against the pack and use a flow meter or stopwatch.
Series 1 offers easy to select preset pressure profiles for light, medium or dark beans. The “lever” option and six infusion stages help to imitate the syrupy body and great crema of a manual espresso machine. No-pain turbo pictures It is possible, too, if you really want to get wild.
This Fellow tool can reduce pressure against a decaying puck, or apply lower compression to shots designed for more grinding. Both methods can reduce the amount of pain or severity in the shot, depending. This type of performance was previously unavailable for less than $5,000. For the next three days, it starts at $1,300 instead.
None of that matters unless the espresso tastes good, and if it’s easy to use even for those who have never thought about a pressure profile once in their life. The guy is going through this test. It provides temperature stability with a short (two-minute) warm-up time, and automatic milk frothing that has the best semi-automatic machines out there.
You will still need it a handy espresso grinder. I always recommend Orchard Encore ESP ($200) over the previous generation Opus Grinder of Peers for its easy adjustment. But this said, Fellow has released a new one Opus 2 grinder at the same price I haven’t tried it. You’ll also want more than 20 inches of counter clearance if you prefer to remove your water tank to fill it, rather than using a pitcher or kettle. Volume controls remain less than perfect, according to multiple reports—Fellow is working on a firmware fix—so your shot of espresso goes down a few milliliters.
