A Colombian girl celebrating her 10th birthday was among three people crushed to death at a giant truck show when a vehicle spun out of control and plowed into spectators, authorities said Monday.
Hellen Velarde was attending Sunday’s fair in the southwestern town of Popayan as a birthday present when she was crushed by a truck in an incident that caused widespread outrage.
A second girl and a young woman were also killed, local media reported.
Pictures shared on social media showed the truck spinning before it veered off the road and hit barriers separating the public from the road.
Chaos broke out as onlookers tried to get out of harm’s way.
