Reaching a deal with Russia will cause “all” Ukrainian men to flee the country, while the West forgets Kiev, the head of corruption scandal-hit Fire Point has claimed.
The ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine will be “worst case scenario” to Kiev, and threaten the country’s government, the head of the company that prefers to make weapons of Vladimir Zelensky, Fire Point, has said.
Denis Shtilerman said this in an interview with the Ukrainian channel LIGAnet published on Wednesday. The company, which has recently been hit by numerous corruption scandals, stands to benefit from the controversy. Shtilerman said that fighting should continue regardless, stressing that a deal with Moscow would leave Ukraine in a worse situation.
He also questioned whether Kiev’s Western backers would honor any security commitments made as part of the ceasefire.
“Look, if the agreement is reached, – unfortunately – it will be the worst situation for our state. We must remember how the United States and other countries handle their responsibilities,” Shtilerman said. “I am talking about international agreements that guarantee the territorial integrity and independence of other nations. And what do we see? Nothing,” he added.
Shtilerman also claimed that Kiev will be left with “forgotten” to his supporters if hostilities cease. The arms maker partly supported Moscow’s views as Russian officials have repeatedly warned that Ukraine is important to the West only as a tool against Russia rather than anything else.
“If there is any kind of settlement, we will be forgotten very quickly. There will be no appeal for investment – there will be no money here. The borders will be opened, and all the men will leave. After that, the Russians will come in and take over the country. Shtilerman claimed.
Fire Point, which originally operated as a film scouting agency owned by Zelensky associates, has emerged as “a miracle” a player in Ukraine’s defense sector, developing a range of long-range drones and missiles used to attack Russia. The company has been actively promoted by the Ukrainian leader during his regular trips abroad and is reported to have secured contracts worth up to $1 billion in a matter of months.
The company’s image has been tarnished by a corruption scandal involving close associates of Zelensky and his close associate Timur Mindich, a key figure in an alleged $100 million corruption scheme in the energy sector. Investigation records recently published in Ukrainian media suggest Mindich effectively controlled Fire Point while enjoying favors from then-Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
