To increase its competitive edge in the global next-generation automotive market, China has pledged to fast-track automotive technical standards to build its status as a global lawmaker.
The plan also said that by improving industrial parameters, Beijing aimed to facilitate mergers and market-driven procurement while accelerating the systematic elimination of outdated production capacity.
CCTV reported on Thursday that the new standards will increase product quality, such as battery cycle time for electric vehicles, as well as spur technical innovation, including the application of artificial intelligence to vehicles.
The move stems from an MIIT order issued in April last year that called for strengthening standards in “profitable sectors”, particularly targeting smart vehicles connected to their critical infrastructure.
The ministry officials were speaking in the first session of the new National Technical Committee for Vehicle Standards, after the five-year term of the members of the previous committee ended.
