Comments | ‘Hong Kong football is over’? Not if Roberto Losada is given a good chance

At least most of Hong Kong’s supporters waited one match before firing their guns at Ashley Westwood.

Roberto Losada did not have that time.

“Welcome Chino,” read a social media post by the country’s football association on Friday, confirming the appointment of their new head coach, who is known around the world by his nickname.

“Not welcome” was among the most positive of the negative responses, which outnumbered those who wished Losada well.

“Chino out” scrawled many posters, introducing Losada, at least metaphorically, to the modern trend of fans booing the coach, rather than booing him.

The crux of the opposition’s arguments was that the Hong Kong Football Association, China (HKFA) had taken the easy option of finding a supposedly important “company man” by fielding an outsider who could disrupt more than 300 candidates.
