MANILA, Philippines – After his House of Representatives charged for the second time in May, while the case continues Vice President Sara Duterte The charges have moved into the pre-trial phase.
The Senate, which serves as an impeachment court, ordered the House impeachment panel and the Vice President’s camp to appear for a preliminary hearing on Thursday, June 18, at 9 a.m.
At the preliminary hearing, the parties will determine the facts, mark the evidence, schedule trial dates, and the proposed sequence of presentation of evidence. According to the Legislature, these details will be discussed to ensure a “fair and speedy trial.”
To discuss the significance of these pre-trial proceedings for Duterte’s impeachment, Rappler justice reporter Jairo Bolledo sits down with constitutional law expert and University of the Philippines College of Law professor.
