It will also be compatible with Dyson’s new hub, the Automatically clean up Documentshopefully it will come out later this year. V10 only Konical and V16 Piston Animal ($980) they are currently scheduled to work with it.

What made me love the Dyson V10 Konical so much was how well it performed in my test rounds. I tried it with sand and grain on the carpet, followed by dirt on the hardwood, then stairs and bedrooms. It fared better than most Dysons in its overall score, beating the V15 Detect, V16 Piston Animal, and V8 Cyclone with their scores.
My scoring criteria were 1 to 4 on five tests—sand, cat litter, Cheerios, general vacuum, and hand grip—with 4 representing the best performance and 1 the lowest. The V10 Konical came away with 14 out of 20, while the V15 came in behind with 12 out of 20. The V10 came in second overall among Dyson’s five vacuums, with only the Gen5Detect beating it with a score of 17. The V10 moves ahead of the Gen5Detect as compatible, though you’ll add; A Dyson take-out center that will be released later this year.
During testing, I was very impressed with how well it picked up sand with its low suction power, and it did a great job of soaking up the intentional Cheerios mess I made. I wasn’t too happy with the results on hard floors, but since the V10 doesn’t work with the Fluffy Optic head like Dyson’s high-end vacuums, it wouldn’t be as effective as the vacuums that can replace the head made for that surface. Still, it’s not bad – it was still able to remove the trash I scattered on the hard floor as a test. It only needed a couple passes instead of one pass to get it all, and it didn’t push it into the pile like the cheaper V8 Hurricane did. The V10 performs well in hand-held mode and on carpet and rugs, and it seemed a little easier to push on low-pile carpet than the V8 had with its Digital Motorbar head.
Overall, I would recommend this vacuum if you are set on a Dyson and have a house full of carpets and rugs. It’s a better buy than buying a cheap V8, and I’ve found it to be a much better experience than the most expensive Dyson vacuums out there. I still wouldn’t call it better than Shark PowerDetectbut if you’re set on a Dyson, this is the best buy at the affordable end of the Dyson range.
