Fifa World Cup: ‘sloppy’ England sink Norway after Bellingham goals but Tuchel not impressed

England produced a brilliant performance that drew the ire of Thomas Tuchel but “world class” Jude Bellingham scored twice to fire them to a 2-1 extra-time World Cup quarter-final win over hapless Norway in Miami on Sunday morning.

It is the fourth time for England to reach the fourth stage and the first since 2018 when they were beaten by Croatia. They will meet either Argentina or Switzerland in Atlanta on Thursday.

The Norwegians took the lead after Andreas Schjelderup left in the 36th minute from the left to catch Jordan Pickford and enter through the far goal.

But Bellingham did well in the dying minutes, then scored the winning goal in the third minute of overtime after Orjan Nyland deflected a Morgan Rogers shot.

“We showed character and perseverance when things weren’t right, and we found a way to win,” Bellingham said. “I’m proud of this team again.”

For a while after the goal, England assured themselves of shaking. Alexander Sorloth whistled a shot over the top, and a low shot from Martin Odegaard sent Pickford to his left.
