Jannik Sinner will enter the French Open as the favorite to win the men’s title since the Rafael Nadal era and with a lot of work to do.
The Italian won’t even have to face Carlos Alcaraz, who he beat in the final of Roland Garros last year, after his biggest rival was ruled out with injuries.
Sinner could become the ninth man to complete a set of all four major titles, following in the footsteps of Alcaraz who won the Australian Open earlier this season.
The world No. 1 could not have been in better form after claiming the Italian Open title on Sunday.
That final victory over Casper Ruud made the 24-year-old only the second player to win all nine Masters 1000 tournaments after Novak Djokovic, who is arguably his biggest rival at the Open, which starts on Sunday.

Sinner has won six straight Masters titles and is on a record 34-game winning streak at the bottom of the slams.
