This was DR Congo’s first World Cup knockout match, and their performance kept the fans on edge. Winger Brian Cipenga made good use of the space on the left side of the penalty area, firing a low shot past Jordan Pickford to give his team the lead in the seventh minute.
At the break, England were 1-0 down, breaking the historic streak. Since 1986, England have never won a World Cup match after trailing at half-time. The pressure mounted until the 75th minute, when Harry Kane equalized after an accurate cross from Anthony Gordon. Just 11 minutes later, Kane scored again to complete the comeback and seal the win.

The emphatic victory preserved England’s unbeaten record against African opposition at the World Cup, extending their run to 10 matches without defeat. However, the toughest challenge lies ahead. The Three Lions will now take on fellow hosts, Mexicoin the round of 16. The match is scheduled to be played at the Estadio Azteca on Monday, July 6, where Tuchel’s men will need a more disciplined defense to advance further in the tournament.
