Unlike previous years in what TV geeks like me call the “light war,” the U7SG doesn’t outshine its predecessor, but that’s not a problem. It’s about three times brighter than anything you can stream (which is limited due to compression), and has enough firepower for all but the brightest 4K HDR Blu-rays. Its color processing shows less restriction than previous models. It’s not exactly what I’d call “correct to the director’s intent,” as such Excellent TV I try, but you can’t help but explode your eyeballs many times.
High brightness corresponds to deep black levels, without “bloom” or “haloing” around bright objects that can overcome the contrast of many friendly TVs. It’s not as surprising OLED TVswhich can control each of the millions of pixels as needed, but will draw you into space scenes just the same. I was pleased that the TV’s internal dimming issue didn’t show up in real-world content, but images tend to stretch out shadows in darker scenes than expected, even if the matte-like screen does a good job of anti-reflection.

There are other notable shortcomings. Moving the TV to the side of my easy chair resulted in dull colors, faded contrast between brighter and darker images, and uneven brightness, known as the “dirty screen effect.” That was even more evident on the greens of the Masters on Sunday as Rory McIlroy held on for victory. It wasn’t an issue when viewing face-to-face, but even so, I noticed some faint yellow lines on the left and right sides of the screen with the background. (I might not have noticed them as much if I hadn’t been streaming this TV for test content first.)
The U7SG still doesn’t feel like a great model. But it’s a very clear, bright TV, and will feel like good value for money once RGB appears on other Hisense models and the price on this one comes down. If you want something brighter than OLED for a similar price LG B5The U7 is a great buy and has a few nice upgrades over last year U75QG.
We’ll know more about the 2026 TV landscape once the new RGB TVs land, but if you need a powerful, high-resolution TV before then, the U7SG should be on your list.
