The indefatigable Ceci Lee Sze-wing added two more bronzes to her medal haul from a breathless Japan Track and Field Cup on Saturday.
The omnium silver medalist on Friday night following one of the best points races of his career, Lee was brought back down to earth the next morning when he managed only sixth in the opening race won by Tsuyaka Uchino.
Responding to the challenge, the ever-resilient Hongkonger claimed bronze in the race to edge out the Japanese behind Japan’s Yumi Kajihara and China’s Chen Ning before matching those results in the points race where she was tied by perennial rival and eventual gold medalist Kajihara before a fierce final race. Uchino stole for money.
“It was a good performance and very close at the end,” Herve Dagorne, Hong Kong’s head coach, said.
“It’s been a really good program for him, and there’s never been an issue of having too many races – it’s the same for all riders.”
Lee had also shown his ability to recover to climb the field for omnium silver. A poor pace race, where a poor decision led to him not competing in the final race, left Lee trailing down the middle of the eighth through the four-discipline event.
