It was a small but significant slip of the tongue that Boey Leung Bo-yee was quick to correct.
“I still keep a routine, I wake up for training … no, not for training, to ride my bike,” said Leung, as he launched into the details of how he fills his days after bringing the curtain to a successful cycling career.
He has no plans to stay unemployed. About two weeks after the feat, as part of Hong Kong’s pursuit team that set a new city record to claim bronze from March’s Asian Games, Leung was in Taiwan to compete in the Spartan Race, which tasks runners with clearing obstacles strewn across grueling courses.
Leung will compete in an e-bike race on Sunday “for fun”, he teaches his sport and from September he will study psychology at the Hong Kong University of Education.
His interest in the subject stems from six months of mentoring he received after participating in the Olympics in 2021.
“Going to the Olympics was my dream but after achieving it I felt empty,” Leung told the South China Morning Post.
“There was a very long period where I felt unmotivated. I forced myself to focus on the Olympics for a long time, and then I think I got tired. My mentor helped me a lot during the difficult time.”
