Ice hockey player Randy Mak was named Hong Kong’s newest Olympic ambassador and said he plans to use his platform to promote the sport locally and become a role model for young players.
Mak was appointed as an ambassador by the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) at their annual dinner.
The 19-year-old will represent Hong Kong at the 66th International Youth Olympic Ambassador Session in Athens, Greece, in June, and plans to share his experiences from the event with athletes and youth in the city.
“I feel very honored to be nominated,” Mak said. “It’s a big responsibility to represent Hong Kong in this way. I’m really excited about the experience in Greece, learning about the Olympics and the core values of the Olympics, and then bringing it back to Hong Kong to inspire young athletes.”
Kenneth Fok Kai‑kong, vice president of SF&OC, said the nomination reflected “a succession of generations within the Hong Kong sports community”.
“Mak represented Hong Kong, China at the Harbin 2025 Asian Winter Games, giving a great performance,” Fok said. “As the captain of Hong Kong’s under-20 team, he led the team to win the IIHF World U20 championship. Mak represents the younger generation of athletes.”
