Your aging iPhone it will feel more responsive once you download iOS 27 later this year. At least, that’s what Apple claims. Its time developer keyword at this year’s WWDC, the company said its upcoming mobile operating system update brings a number of platform stability improvements that will make older devices, such as iPhone 11 from 2019, keep going better.
There’s a laundry list of improvements, from faster PDF saving to faster camera launch in Low Power Mode. But the main highlights? App launch is up to 30 percent faster—that’s tested on iPhone 11 Pro Max. AirDrop file transfer is up to 80 percent faster (tested on iPhone 16 Plus), and jumping into your photo library after taking a photo will load the photo up to 70 percent faster, as tested on iPhone 15.
The iPhone will be smarter about switching between cellular and Wi-Fi networks. Apple has also redesigned the system that enables search in Highlights, Photos, and Mail, meaning you should see. especially what you are looking for on the first try.

Some of these improvements are thanks to improvements to the iPhone’s CPU scheduler. This is a common feature in operating systems that coordinates CPU work, managing the flow of apps and services so that the main thing you’re doing on your iPhone—what you’re focusing on right now—runs smoothly and quickly. Apple’s highest CPU schedule is in its latest devices, but the team brought much of that algorithm development to the iPhone 11 in iOS 27.
It’s in Apple’s best interest to keep older devices updated for as long as possible. Francisco Jeronimo, vice president of Data and Analytics at research company IDCit says consumers don’t want to feel pressured to upgrade their smartphones. If they can keep their device for a long time, it’s less of a concern, and the value for money is even better, especially since we use more smartphones today than ever before.
“This is a big difference between iOS and Android,” Jeronimo says. “Because consumers now know that if they buy an iOS device, it’s going to last a long time, and it’s going to hold value in the end when they decide to upgrade. Android device-after two, three years, depending on the brand- they won’t be able to get updates anymore. The device will lose value if they want to upgrade it, and they won’t be able to sell it at a higher price.”
Although Apple usually uses its devices for six to seven years, choose only Android phone manufacturers like Google and Samsung promise that level of support.
