Welcome to The Logoff: Donald Trump makes a lot of money from the presidency.

What is happening? Presidential profiteering is nothing new, but financial disclosures released last night shed new light on how much money Trump is making while in office. 2025 total: $2.2 billion, nearly four times the $622 million in revenue it reported in 2024.

That total includes more than $1.4 billion from two of the Trump family’s cryptocurrency projects — one of which is World Freedom Fundof which 49 percent is owned by the royal family of the United Arab Emirates. (That stock was secretly bought days before Trump’s 2025 inauguration, as the Wall Street Journal has reportedand shortly thereafter, the Trump administration gave the UAE access to advanced AI chips.)

What is the context? While that number is staggering, it doesn’t quite capture the full extent of Trump’s corruption. Since last year, David D. Kirkpatrick of the New Yorker has been closely monitor all the plans of the president to enrich himself — as well as those of his immediate family, from his sons Don Jr. and Eric Trump to his son-in-law (and Middle East peace broker) Jared Kushner.

What else should I know? In addition to directly enriching himself and his family, Trump has spent much of his second term as president using the government, and American tax dollars, as a piggy bank for his personal projects. That includes more than a million dollars in national park fees set aside for beautification repairs at the White House – which he said he would pay for himself.

And so, it’s time to leave…

It is, somehow, already July, so today I wanted to share gift link with my colleague Allie Volpe’s advice on how to think about summer if you’re already grieving its end. (It also gives me a chance to share this Calvin & Hobbes strip about the same subject, which interests me real feelings.)

Plus, the World Cup thing: It’s match day for the USA! If they win tonight, all three host teams will advance to the round of 16. This is what the party was like. in Mexico City last night after defeating Ecuador and qualifying.

Have a good evening, and we’ll see you here tomorrow!
