Iran and the United States continue to talk, but the ceasefire is over, Trump says

US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that the ceasefire between Iran and the US is “OVER,” although diplomatic talks will continue, after a tumultuous week in which the two sides clashed and the president proposed reimposing sanctions on the Strait of Hormuz.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue the ‘dialogue.’ We have agreed to do so, but the US has told you, in no uncertain terms, that the Ceasefire Program is OVER!” he wrote on Truth Social.

Iranian forcesattacked commercial ships in the sea this weekcausing a strong response from the United States. Trump then surprised the country’s leadership at a NATO summit in Turkey, telling reporters he was considering taking Kharg Island on Wednesday and expressing doubt that a deal could be reached to end the fighting.
