In what appears to make a sharp departure from its existing range, Range Rover has confirmed a brand new fifth car: the Range Rover GT, a. all electric grand tourer built on the company’s Electronic Architecture (EMA), the same platform that will underpin the brand’s other mid-size vehicles.
Range Rover has only shared images of the prototype for now, as the GT is reportedly still undergoing final testing, ahead of a full launch expected later this year. That means details on this brand new model are very limited: no price, no range, and no power figures revealed. As for the release date, Range Rover confirmed that the GT will hit the roads in 2027.
What stands out from the camo images is the GT’s sleek silhouette and coupé proportions, more closely associated with sister brand Range Rover, jaguar, than a platform known for its commitment to SUVs. Both companies sit under the parent company, JLR (formerly written as Jaguar Land Rover).
In a statement, Martin Limpert, global managing director at Range Rover, says the Range Rover GT is intended to “redefine the touring segment” with “the GT’s stability, balance and long-range refinement,” adding that the EV will offer “capability that the standard GT cannot match.”
The inclusion of the word “normal” is heavy lifting. Range Rover will likely take pains in the coming months to explain how this new electric tourer isn’t a direct competitor to Jaguar’s much-anticipated all-electric tourer. polarizing type 01intended to mark a complete reinvention for Jaguar, which will also arrive in 2027.
“We have spent the last few years working intensively on the fundamentals of the GT formula, reinterpreted in a modern, distinctive Range Rover way,” says Limpert, adding that this GT, like its SUV counterparts, will still be able to go off-road. “The result is the most car-like Range Rover ever created. Its combination of easy EV performance, first-class long-range refinement, and off-road capability is pure Range Rover, while its interior fulfills our vision of a modern grand tourer.”
