The agreement includes Israel’s right to take “all necessary measures of self-defense” if attacked
10 days ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon came into force on Friday, by US President Donald Trump insisting that Hezbollah is part of the agreement, even though the armed group had boycotted peace talks with Israel as futile.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) resumed their operation in Lebanon in early March after Hezbollah fired rockets and missiles at Israel in support of Iran. At least 2,196 people have been killed in Lebanon, and 1.2 million displaced, as Israel carried out airstrikes in Beirut and other cities and issued massive evacuation orders in an effort to expand “safe zone” south of Lebanon.
Iran, which reached a two-week ceasefire with the US and Israel on April 8, has listed an end to Israel’s campaign in Lebanon as one of the key conditions for a lasting peace deal.
