Lebanon’s health ministry said Israeli attacks in the south of the country on Sunday killed 14 people, the deadliest day since a cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah took effect a week ago.
It came as Israel and the Iran-backed group exchanged fresh accusations of violating the fragile accord, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying the military was “strongly” targeting Hezbollah and the group vowing to continue responding to “violations”.
The Israeli army has carried out repeated attacks in Lebanon since the ceasefire on April 17, which on Thursday was extended for three weeks, after six weeks of war in which Israel also invaded the south of the country.
Israeli soldiers are operating inside the “yellow” line declared by Israel, which separates a strip of Lebanese territory about 10 kilometers deep along the border, where residents have been warned not to return.
Lebanon’s health ministry said the dead on Sunday included two women and two children, adding that 37 other people were injured.
Israeli attacks have killed at least 36 people since the start of the accord, according to Agence France-Presse’s health ministry statistics.
