Manchester City will finish the Premier League in ‘cup final mode’, says the former star

Former Manchester City player Shaun Wright-Phillips believes Pep Guardiola’s side will treat their remaining matches as “cup finals” and add another trophy to their 10 Premier League titles next month.

City moved above Arsenal at the top of the table for the first time since August after their 1-0 win over Burnley on Wednesday. However, both sides are level on points and goal difference, with City ahead on “goals of”.

With just five games left for City and Arsenal, Wright-Phillips did not want to join the discussions about Arsenal that could deliver another chance for the title.

“What Arsenal do is what Arsenal do. From City’s point of view, what we like is to treat every game as a cup final,” said the 44-year-old player, whose father, Ian Wright, is an Arsenal legend who won one title, in 1997/98.

“They’re going to go to those games one after another, and play their hearts out like they always have.”

City travel to Everton next, followed by a home game against Brentford. They will then travel to Bournemouth, before closing their season with home games against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
