Imagine if Botticelli, a few decades after painting Birth of Venushe had decided to give her a haircut. Edward Albee did something greater, although he did not have such a masterpiece. A new act begins in Peter’s life. His wife, Ann, plays him in a respectable Albee style, a little bored with a textbook publishing husband who offers loving, safe, predictable sex, surrounded by two daughters, two cats and two parakeets.
When he says he wants Peter to be more animal, he reveals the escape route that hurt the girl. This snaps Ann out of her sherry-drinking haze, prompting Peter to go to the garden, and his encounter with Jerry the wolf.
