Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that he was treated for early stage prostate cancer, admitting that he delayed the publication of the medical report by two months during the war with Iran.
According to Netanyahu’s annual medical report published on Friday, the tumor was found in a “very early stage,” without spread or metastases, and the problem is now fully treated. Head of oncology at Hadassah Hospital Aharon Popovtser said that follow-up imaging and blood tests showed that “the disease is gone.”
Netanyahu said he has requested that the information be withheld from the public so that it is not released “at the height of war” against Iran and provoke what he called “More false propaganda against Israel.”
Netanyahu has emphasized that the doctors told him that the condition is minor and common for men of his age, and that he can monitor or treat it immediately.
“You already know me. When I am given timely information about a potential danger, I want to deal with it immediately. This is true on a national level as well as on a personal level,” he wrote in a post on X.
The 76-year-old leader underwent surgery earlier surgery for benign enlarged prostate in 2024 and since then he was under routine care, when the tumor was discovered. It is not yet clear when exactly the treatment took place, and his office said the rest of the medical report showed he was in good health.
The revelation comes after weeks of speculation about Netanyahu’s health after he missed a series of security cabinet meetings during the first phase of the US-Israeli war with Iran.
In March, he released a shocking video of himself waving during a visit to a Jerusalem restaurant in an effort to counter rumors that recent videos of his public appearances were produced by AI.
