Pep Guardiola’s record-breaking 10-year spell at Manchester City may be coming to an end, according to British media reports.
City would not comment on media reports including the BBC and the Daily Mail that 55-year-old Guardiola was expected to leave the club at the end of the season. He has one year left on his contract.
Enzo Maresca, the former Chelsea manager who was previously Guardiola’s assistant at City, was the main contender to take over, the BBC said. There was no immediate response from Maresca representatives when contacted.
Guardiola, who has won 17 major trophies with City since arriving in English football in 2016, had been repeatedly asked in recent weeks whether he would stay at City beyond this season.
On Monday, he rolled his eyes when another question was asked about his future and he replied: “I’ve said it many times, I have one more year.”

In overseeing the most successful period in City’s history during his tenure, Guardiola has spent longer at the club than he did at Barcelona (2008-12) and Bayern Munich (2013-16).
