A known child sex offender is missing from the community, after police discovered he had not made mandatory reports to authorities and were unable to locate him at his last known location.
Officials posted information about Laurence Golding, also known as Lawrence John Wiggins, on the Daniel’s Law database.
Crime Squad Acting Chief Detective Stephen Blanchfield said Golding had not met his wife reporting requirementswhich may include information about travel or personal information, or any contact with the child.
“This information is published to help members of the community make the right decisions where there is a legitimate need for child protection,” Blanchfield said.
He said the details about Golding were kept clear on Registration of the Law of Daniel on Friday – including Golding’s photo, name, and year of birth – was released “in accordance with legal requirements”.
Notebook – named The Law of Daniel after murdered Sunshine Coast schoolboy Daniel Morcombe – launched on December 31.
Blanchfield urged anyone who saw Golding to immediately report it to the police.
The Brisbane Times it does not mean that Golding has committed any other offences, only that the police are looking for his whereabouts.
“If that person is seen in the community, don’t approach them,” Blanchfield said.
In a statement, police said the information cannot be used to harass, intimidate or target a person, and doing so could result in criminal charges.
In March, the state government revealed two child sex offenders had been charged After being found to skip parts of their mandatory information, follow the tips from their communities.
At the time, the police were investigating nine reports from the community, due to concerns about the criminals having children.
Anyone who has concerns about a member of the community can make a report to the Daniel’s Law register.
The register also allows a two-way search, which can provide a complete list of criminals who violated the reporting obligation, and criminals near the selected area.
