One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce this morning confirmed reports that the party was targeting Labor seats in Sydney’s western suburbs following its historic win over the Coalition in Farrer.
“We’re thinking a lot about the western suburbs of Sydney,” Joyce told Seven’s Sunrise.
“I was talking to people from the western suburbs of Sydney last night, they were all down. To be honest, I was talking to potential candidates. People are very passionate.
“They get the idea that when you’ve got record bankruptcies in small businesses, when you’ve got a government that doesn’t understand that people have crossed climate change policy … they’re on top of their power bills. They’re on Australia with so much potential, (we) don’t seem to like putting it on the ground,” Joyce said.
Appearing alongside Joyce was Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek, who said it was important to listen to what Australians were saying to the government. He also accused Joyce of not taking action on important social issues when he was the country’s deputy prime minister.
“We are addressing housing affordability after 10 years of inaction from the Coalition government where Barnaby Joyce was deputy prime minister and never did any of the things he now says are important,” Plibersek said.
