Turns out it’s not just office jobs people should be worried about taking on AI, some athletes might want to watch their backs too.
In a scene that could have come straight out of the Terminator movie franchise, two robots battled it out in an MMA fight in Shenzhen this week, leaving social media users stunned by one of the two fighters headless.
Dubbed the robot version of the UFC, the opening Ultimate Robot Knock-out Legend (URKL) was the first event of its kind, featuring two identical T800 robots, the same model as Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character in the original film, trading in a specially designed hexagonal cage at the Nanshan Sports and Culture Center.
Among those watching as the two life-size AI machines took off was legendary martial arts actor Donnie Yen Ji-dan.
The star of the Ip Man films, the 62-year-old called the “absolute power and precision movement” of the incredible robots.
“I had only seen robot fights in science fiction movies before,” Yen said. “Today, seeing real robots fighting and competing up close, witnessing this historic achievement, the impact was completely different.”
