Senator Risa Hontiveros took to Facebook to express her views on the events of the Senate on Wednesday, May 13, calling it a “historic low” for the Philippines.
“Unfortunately, the Senate, the House of the People, a sacred space where laws are made and rights are protected, was turned into a firing range. It is a desecration, not only of our walls, but of the faith placed in that institution,” he wrote.
Hontiveros added that the Senate belongs to the people of the Philippines, “so no one acts like they own that territory, much less restrain themselves in it.”
“We hope, in order to avoid new violence and tension either inside or outside the Senate, Senator (Bato) Dela Rosa will submit and cooperate with law enforcement regarding his (ICC) document,” Hontiveros said. (Hence, we hope, to avoid another incident of violence and tension inside or outside the Senate, Senator Dela Rosa should help and surrender to the authorities regarding his consent.)
